Happy New Year to everyone in the Northern Hemisphere and hope you are enjoying 2014 those to the south. Jet lag inhibited our ability to stay up and ring in the new year last night but I wasn't too worried. Waking up to a new adventure in Santa Barbara was pretty special, even though it was at noon.
Our flight yesterday, although short, was quite an experience. Between a vomiting 10yr old, chatty UCLA alumni and a group of over-excited 12 year olds behind I wasn't getting too much rest. Instead I powered through an eclectic mix of movies and my iPhone battery power.
<Torrey Atkin, why did you not warn me that Atonement will cause me to cry continuosly and embarrass myself in public>
Anyhow after hopping off the plane to the sun slowly rising over LA I was feeling right at home. Wandering through the gates I could feel a winter chill in the air and couldn't be happier. My journey is scheduled for the time being but I can't wait to get a taste of the US on my own. Customs were surprisinly chirpy for 6.30am and we breezed through, getting up to Santa Barbara just in time for breakfast at Sambos which we revisited today.
The rest of our adventures so far have been errands, shopping and eating (and reality tv). However I'm ready for more adventures tomorrow. My health has been a little rocky from the nerves but I can't wait to start at UCSB.
Ps. We did actually do something for New Years and had a beautiful dinner at Stella Mares in Santa Barbara. I'm still full.
Until next time,
Nina
