The Dorms 2.0

Welcome to UCSB!

Yesterday I moved into my dorm in Cienaga House at Manzanita Village (on the west side of campus). It was a pretty exciting experience after the first time moving in to a dorm for summer arts at CSUMB. The dorm is really spacious and my roommate is incredibly sweet and has been showing me around UCSB to get me oriented.

Saturday was my last day to get sorted before moving into the dorm and was spent relaxing and buying some last minute items. My jet lag hadn't aleviated by then so I was wiped out during the morning but some good coffee and pumpkin pie for lunch made things easier to manage.

Sunday was then the big move in day! That being said I didn't really have that much stuff to move in as I only brought 23kg of luggage with me to sustain the 6 month period. Some shopping is definitely in order.

Moving in was a straightforward process and as my roommate Kaitlyn wasn't in our room at the time I was able to spread out. I have the left hand side of the room and we share a window that looks out onto a courtyard and beyond to the coast. It is incredibly picturesque and the dorm itself is quiet. Everyone i've met so far in Manzanita is really nice and very laid back. I'm somewhat relieved as it means I'm not up all night but still looking forward to making some new friends. Kaitlyn invited me along to a dinner with two of her Rugby friends last night and we went out for Mexican downtown. Both her friends are really nice but also pretty reserved.

By poor health isn't on the rise yet as I'm a little snuffly and croaky. I should be better soon but it is a bit disappointing for the first day of classes. Kaitlyn, as a senior (4th year), is seasoned and comfortable in the UCSB environment so she likes to keep things low-key.

At the moment I'm back at the dorm after lunch and getting ready to go to two afternoon PolySci courses. Both look really interesting and I'm hoping to encounter some chattier people who can tell me more about the university life.

So far it's been a relaxed transition into UCSB so we shall see what happens next.
