In Memorandum

In light of the recent events that have taken place in Isla Vista I have refrained from posting about this past week. My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by the attacks. 

A poem by a fellow Gaucho:

We are IV.
We are over 30 streets from the beach to the school,
the short path to Ocean Road.
We are late night Freebirds and early morning Campbell,
five page papers and four person pong.
We are The Emperor's Club, Project X, Dead Poets Society, personified,
and the intravenous drip that keeps us going consists of
a satanic mix of Fireball, Rolling Rock, and extra guac.
On Friday, we suffered, but we also learned.
We learned that we are not alone because in each of us, the world sees its future, its children.
And though we are seven fewer among us, we are several thousand strong elsewhere.
As we take baby-steps to heal, remember that we always have a crutch,
and that life won’t be as harsh to those that need help
and we will always remember those gone too early.
Because we are IV.
We are friendly neighbors and fanatic partygoers.
We are hard working academics and hard drinking alcoholics.
But before all, we are one community.
We stand together for those fallen.
We are IV.
